Savings with LED Floodlights Add Up Quickly

When Yogi Patel bought his motel property in Lodi, CA, in Fall 2013, he was ready to switch out the 1,000W parking lot lights to LED fixtures, but he worried about where to find a cost-effective solution.

“I looked around, and other companies were charging $600 or more,” he said.

When his contractor recommended e-conolight, Patel did some research and was impressed with both the selection and the prices.

“E-conolight is a very low price compared to others I found. For less than $300 you can’t go wrong,” he said. “The quality of the light is exactly what I needed, and they work perfectly.”

Patel purchased 52 40-degree  7,000 lumen, 152W LED floodlights offered by e-conolight for the motel parking lot and says he saw savings – in both energy and his electric bill – immediately. The original lights ran for 12 hours a day and were using 54,000 watts. His new LEDs use only 7,752 watts for those same 12 hours, which netted Patel an $11,500 rebate check from his utility company.

More, Patel also purchased three, 20-degree spotlights to wash the roof of the motel and is in the process of replacing staircase fixtures with LED wall mounts, also offered by e-conolight.

“I have put in five LED wall mounts so far, and there are nine more to go,” he added. “As those lights go out, I will replace them with the same wall mounts.”

Patel said he plans to keep converting his legacy lighting fixtures with LEDs because they’re the future of lighting.

“LEDs are the generation people will go to,” he stated. “And e-conolight will be my first stop going forward.”

Upgrading to LED Increases Energy Efficiency, Decreases Costs

Increasing the energy efficiency in your home doesn’t mean sacrificing high style or breaking the bank. The evolution and increasing familiarity of LED products over the last several years means homeowners can swap their traditional lighting schemes indoor and out for brighter light at bigger savings.

INDOOR

Recessed lighting took kitchen design by storm a few years ago, but recent regulations that limit the manufacture and importing of incandescent bulbs mean the change to more efficient lighting will happen sooner rather than later. New 14W LED recessed retrofit kits offered by e-conolight make the transition smooth because they fit into most existing 5” and 6” recessed housings. Kits include a long-lasting LED bulb that provides bright light at considerable savings.

Track lighting has also come a long way since the chunky units of the 1970s. From high-style residential track heads with an industrial twist to sleek units that fit in nicely with almost any décor, LED track lights offered by e-conolight deliver bright light, true colors and keep a low profile. Homeowners can highlight architectural details, spotlight great pieces of art or use the new track head models for general illumination instead of traditional ceiling-mount fixtures and/or table lamps.

Brighten up basements without the headache of replacing existing T-bar ceiling structures with drop-in LED troffers, now in a convenient 1x4 size at e-conolight.com. Because LED troffers can be up to 70 percent brighter and use less energy than fluorescent tubes, fewer fixtures are needed overall. Homeowners end up saving time and money.

OUTDOOR

Saving money with more efficient LED lighting isn’t limited to indoor ideas. Homeowners can light up walkways, create the perfect backdrop for enjoying an evening outside, highlight landscaping and more.

LED wall packs offered by e-conolight are ideal lighting fixtures for exterior walls on both homes and garages. Some models include a cutoff glare shield to direct light down to the ground, where it’s needed. They can also throw light to both sides, increasing visibility along driveways and walkways with minimal glare, which is important to help keep the peace with neighbors.

Backyard decks can be fantastic entertainment spaces, but the fun shouldn’t be limited to daytime because homeowners are afraid of attracting bugs if they install lights. LED flexible strip lighting is the ideal solution because the strips are flexible and fit nicely underneath top rails. LED strips are also completely sealed, and, unlike traditional bulbs, LEDs don’t attract bugs so the party doesn’t have to move inside after the sun goes down.

Curb appeal doesn’t need to fade into the shadows at nightfall. LED decorative sconces from e-conolight.com shine light up, down or in both directions and highlight pretty features in the yard and nice architectural touches at the same time. Homeowners who want to add a little more style to walkway lighting and entryways will find that sconces are an attractive and energy cost saving way to go.

LED Lay-In Troffers Just What the Teacher Ordered

Students in Rachel Nemitz’s 2nd grade class at Wisconsin Lutheran School in Racine, WI, noticed immediately there was something different in their classroom when they reported for the first day of school last fall.

“They looked up and said the room was so bright,” Nemitz remembers.

Leaders of Wisconsin Lutheran last summer swapped out 1-for-1 existing T12 linear fluorescent fixtures for 2x4 LED lay-in troffers offered by e-conolight. Nemitz said the difference in the quality of light is what makes her appreciate the new fixtures.

“With the new LEDs we have bright light without the glare we had before,” she added. “I really notice the difference when I’m at my desk grading papers.”

Principal Paul Patterson also likes the way the troffers deliver warm, even light throughout the classroom.

“The light is brighter but also softer and not as institutional,” he said. “There is definitely a better mood in the room.”

Another positive factor associated with the LED troffers is that they’re silent instead of giving off a low-level hum that comes from traditional lighting fixtures. For students with distraction issues, this is a nice bonus.

“Having less background noise for students who struggle with distraction is very helpful,” Nemitz noted.

Nemitz’s classroom is the first of what Patterson hopes will eventually be the whole school, budget permitting.

“We would love to afford doing the whole school right away,” he stated. “Old ballasts are at the end of their lives so we’re working additional LED fixtures into the budget.”

Loft Apartments Get Lighting Upgrade

Rising Sun Mills apartments in Providence, RI, are modern urban loft spaces getting a new look with PAR track lighting offered by e-conolight and LED lamps provided by the local utility company.

Not only will the new lighting scheme keep units bright on even the darkest days, the combination of e-conolight’s best-selling track fixture with an LED lamp will also save management and tenants on energy bills.

Lead Electrician Marco Desrochers is charged with leading the installation, and he said the apartments have large windows so there’s plenty of natural light. But, because there are few overhead light fixtures, the units can feel too dark when the weather is overcast.

He is putting up four-foot lengths of track in both the living space and bedroom of each apartment.

“These apartments show best on sunny days, but we can’t always get those so overhead lighting is very important,” he said.

Mark Van Noppen agreed. He is co-founder of Armory Revival Company, parent company of Rising Sun Mills.

"There is a bright, warm feeling now so, even in the winter when it's dark by 4 p.m., residents get a homey feeling," he stated.

Desrochers recommended track lighting to Van Noppen because of its flexibility, he added. The PAR30 75W max rear-loading Gimbal Ring track heads will be fitted onto the track feeds to allow for track heads to be added or removed as needed. Each fixture will be outfitted with a 75W equivalent LED lamp provided by RISE Engineering and National Grid for bright light and energy cost savings.

Van Noppen is happy with both the way the fixtures look and the way they light up the spaces.

"These are loft-style apartments with big walls for big paintings and interesting art, and the new fixtures wash the walls perfectly," he added.

The plan, Van Noppen and Desrochers noted, is to keep installing track lighting as units rollover from one tenant to the next.

"We'll probably do 10 or 15 units a year," Desrochers estimated. "They really do make a big difference by highlighting the great features of these apartments."

LED Wall Mounts Shed Light on Parking Area

Employees at Washington Marine Cleaning in Everett, WA, have a brighter parking area and more security with the addition of 600 lumen, 14W LED wall mounts offered by e-conolight.

“We were in such need of outside lighting,” said Gary Baldwin, a company manager. “Now the security outside the building is much better.”

Washington Marine Cleaning provides cleaning services primarily for commercial marine and industrial applications. Crews often arrive to work before the sun has fully risen and leave after dark so having reliable lighting for greater safety and security was a priority.

Baldwin said he likes the wall mounts because of the way they broadcast light, the photocells work great and they look good, too.

“The lights do what they say they’re going to do in the descriptions,” he added. “What more can you ask?”

In addition to saving Washington Marine operation costs, the wall mounts also saved some money up front by being less expensive than other brands listed with the local electric utility’s rebate program.

"Even without the rebate, ordering from e-conolight was the better way to go," Baldwin confirmed.

MR16 Micro Cylinders Keep the Party Going After Dark

Homeowners in Richfield, OH, who enjoy outdoor entertaining often turn to Rzonca Construction to design and build their patios, decks and pergolas. Dave Rzonca turns to MR16 12V micro-cylinders offered by e-conolight to provide the right amount of light to keep the party going after the sun goes down.

Because Rzonca and his crews specialize in outdoor spaces that are used during the day and at night, he needs a cost-effective lighting solution for his customers that is also unobtrusive.

Rzonca said he uses the micro-cylinders as part of every overhead or shade structure he builds because they fit nicely in the joints of overhead structures. Customers are happy with them as well.

"Customers like the way they look," he added. "The micro-cylinders provide the right amount of light at a low voltage for a reasonable price."

Dave Rzonca installed a white MR16 12V micro-cylinder
underneath this shade structure.
The micro-cylinders are UL listed for wet locations so Rzonca also uses them as uplighting for statues.

“The micro-cylinders are easy to use and throw a lot of light for the price,” he said. “It’s hard to find outdoor lights for less than $50 each, so these are great.”

The lights come in either black or white, so they can be used in a variety of settings. Rzonca said he has installed approximately 300 micro-cylinders over the years as part of almost every patio, deck, pergola and pavilion project.

LED Sconces Available in Nick of Time for Monastery

California electrician Mike Muha was on the hunt for the perfect sconces to install in the pool area of a monastery when e-conolight started carrying a line of decorative sconces at a lower price than he’d been able to find.

“They came out just in time,” he said. “I’d spec’d out something else, but they were too much money. These were exactly what I needed.”

Muha’s crew from Pure Electric installed a total of three sconces in the nun’s pool area of the Monastery of Perpetual Adoration in San Francisco. He said the feedback he’s received has all been positive.

“Everybody loves (the lights),” he added. “The guys on the job were asking where I got them, but more importantly, the nuns and the people who care for them really are happy.”

Not only do the sconces provide the right amount of light at the right tone, Muha said the design and quality construction are also pluses.

“It has a simple, clean look so it will fit in almost anywhere,” he continued. “The quality of the piece is also evident.”

Consider the price point – units start at just $49.90 – and the lack of regular maintenance other than routine cleaning, and Muha said decorative sconces offered by e-conolight are a best buy for him.

LED Directional Floodlight Welcomes Residents Home

Neighbors who live in the new Charleston subdivision in Boise, ID, receive a warm welcome every time they come home. Signs at each of the five entrances are illuminated by LED directional floodlights offered by e-conolight.

Each entrance to the subdivision features a sign with surrounding landscaping and two LED directional floodlights angled just right to light up the signs at night.

“There are multiple signs with the LEDs,” lead electrician Justin Metcalf, of Full Spectrum Services, said. “I’m really pleased with the result.”

Metcalf said he also appreciates the design of the fixtures because of how quickly they were installed.

“These lights were very easy to install, and speed is important because saving time means saving money for our customer,” he added.

But, most importantly, Metcalf said the quality of the light is just what the project needs.

"The light is great," he continued. "The LEDs light up the signs spectacularly."

DLC and ENERGY STAR: Why Qualification Matters

If you’ve been shopping e-conolight for any amount of time, chances are you’ve encountered the DLC and ENERGY STAR badges on a few products. But … do you know what they mean?

Both the DLC and ENERGY STAR badges help customers identify quality and long-lasting products for commercial (DLC) and residential (ENERGY STAR) applications.

DLC (Design Lights Consortium) is well-known in commercial circles for lighting products primarily used outside.

Receiving the DLC certification is not an easy process; benchmarks for quality are tough to meet, and only items that go through rigorous third-party testing to meet those marks get qualified. For example, many fixtures must operate at 70 percent lumen maintenance or above for a minimum of 50,000 hours and offer a five-year warranty.

Customers who choose DLC-certified light fixtures for their commercial application are also eligible for utility rebates in many states.*

ENERGY STAR rates indoor residential items including lighting and appliances.

Products that qualify for the ENERGY STAR badge are also tested by approved third-party facilities. Those that meet ENERGY STAR standards for pollution reduction and increased energy cost savings receive the distinctive blue badge.

Residential customers can also take advantage of utility company rebates in several states when they purchase ENERGY STAR appliances for their homes.*

*Utility rebates vary by state and company. Customers should check with their utility for eligibility rules.

Let the Lighting Layout Tool Do the Configuring for You

Contractors interested in creating accurate bid packages can take advantage of free applications assistance with the Lighting Layout Tool offered at e-conolight.com.

This new, web-based tool eliminates hours of calculations – and the potential for mistakes – by doing the math for customers. The lighting layout tool works for both large indoor warehouse or industrial spaces and outdoor parking area lighting upgrade projects.

For indoor applications, the layout tool allows customers to control the size of the room, including the ceiling height; enter the desired foot candles; choose the layout of rows, columns and wall spacing; and provides a printed detailed summary at the end.

Customers can configure the right light for an outdoor application – also with a printed summary – by defining how they envision laying out rows, mounting height, orientation and tilt; adding new fixtures or changing location by clicking and dragging; and setting the preferred units such as “feet” and “foot candle.”

First time visitors will appreciate the attention to detail and are encouraged to click on every input section from top to bottom. Once customers become familiar with the operation of the tool, steps can be skipped according to the needs of the project for results in seconds.

LED Dusk-to-Dawn Lives Up to Hype

E-conolight customer Bob Watts enjoys keeping up on the latest technologies, especially when it comes to the LED dusk-to-dawn offered by e-conolight, but he admits he was skeptical.

He was in the market for a night light with a photocell for the back corner of his house when he learned about the LED light.

“I was rather skeptical that it would put out the advertised lumens,” he said. “But, after the first couple of seconds of use, it was obvious this is a superior product.

The LED dusk-to-dawn offered by e-conolight features 3,550 delivered lumens at only 36W over 70,000 hours of virtually maintenance-free use. It is constructed of die-cast aluminum with a polyester powder coat grey finish to provide extra protection against corrosion.

Watts said he noticed those details as soon as he opened the box.

“Upon opening and examining the light, it was obvious at first glance this was a quality, well-made item,” he added. “Even the mounting bracket and hardware were impressive.”

A twist-lock photocell is included, and Watts noted that was a primary selling feature of the fixture.

“The photocell works exactly as I would prefer it to,” he continued. “(The light) doesn’t come on too soon, and it goes off at very first light.”

The LED dusk-to-dawn offered by e-conolight retails for $109.90.

LED Wall Mount Lights the Way

When the trustees at Fairview Baptist Church in Jonesboro, GA, needed to replace the light at the back door of their building, they turned to e-conolight for a 14W LED Wall Mount.

“We really like it,” said Trustee Terry Vining. “This light replaced an old, incandescent light and it is by far the better choice.”

What Vining said he likes so much about the LED product offered by e-conolight is that he won’t have to change the bulb anytime soon since it has up to 25,000 hours of virtually maintenance-free operation.

Additionally, the light includes a built-in photocell so congregants don’t need to worry about turning the light on and off each day, and it has a low profile.

“We needed something that would give us the light we needed without being too big,” Vining added.

The 14W LED Wall Mount measures just 9” x 5-3/4” x 4” and weighs only 2.4 pounds. At 600 lumens and 80 CRI, light is bright and colors stay true.

Fairview Baptist also features exit signs purchased from e-conolight, and Vining said that as the church’s supply of compact fluorescent lamps burn out, he expects to replace them with LED fixtures offered by e-conlight.

“I will definitely consider this product and other LED fixtures offered by e-conolight when the need arises,” he said.

The Best LED Troffer Your Money Can Buy

LED lay-in troffers offered by e-conolight deliver brighter light, superior color and big savings because they were designed and built around light.
Unlike competitors’ troffers that have been retrofitted to accommodate LEDs, troffers at e-conolight.com have been rebuilt from the ground up. Designing the fixture around the LEDs  creates even light distribution in either a warm, white light or a neutral, white light. Colors are rendered true at 80 CRI, and at just 38W for the 2 x 2 and 50W for the 2 x 4, respectively, the energy cost savings over traditional lighting is significant.
LED troffers offered by e-conolight are also built to last and for easy installation. Fixtures are expected to last for up to 50,000 virtually maintenance free hours, feature a totally enclosed housing, and can be replaced on a 1-for-1 basis in existing T-bar grid ceilings.
Additionally, these LED troffers are both UL listed and DLC (Design Light Consortium)certified, which means they’re eligible for energy rebate programs offered by utility companies in several states.
More, the troffers are priced for increased savings; the more you buy, the more you save. Single units start at just $124.90.

LED Wall Packs Keep Peace with Neighbors

LED wall packs offeredy by e-conolight focus light down – where it’s needed – instead of producing glare, helping homeowners in Houston, TX, keep the peace.
Jeff Weissman of Weissman Electric said, on average, he installs two wall packs a month and that the control of light distribution is his favorite feature. Most often, Weissman is putting up 2,000 lumen, 38 watt neutral white LED wall packs.

“What I like best about this fixture is the light distribution,” he said. “The light goes down to the area where you want it, not up into your eyes, creating glare or light pollution.”

The lack of glare matters in residential applications because neighbors appreciate not having light from next door shining into their yard, Weissman added.

LED wall packs offered by e-conolight provide up to tens of thousands of hours of virtually maintenance-free use, bright light where it’s needed most, and significant energy cost savings. Wall packs range from a 1,300 lumen/27 watt fixture to a 6,000 lumen/73 watt light, and they are designed for security, pathway, and perimeter lighting where spill light is important.

The Right LED Track Light for Any Application

Energy savings and style come together with three new LED track lights offered by e-conolight for use in indoor residential, commercial, retail and industrial applications.

The LED MR16-Style Track Light is ideal for residential use, providing three flexible light settings with illumination comparable to a J50W MR16 halogen lamp while only using 25 percent of the energy. The new LED MR16 is stylish, compact and lasts for up to 60,000 hours, six times the life of a halogen bulb. Homeowners will appreciate the way this light highlights architecture and artwork and fulfills general lighting needs.

E-conolight now offers general purpose track lighting with the introduction of the E-KXC LED Beveled Cylinder Track Light. Comparable to a 75W PAR30 halogen lamp, the beveled cylinder includes a 15W LED bulb that provides up to 80 percent energy savings. It is available in either black or white polyester powder-coat finish and three color temperature settings; residential warm light (2700K), soft, warm white light (3000K) and crisp, neutral white light (4000K).

The LED Flat Back Track Light is a high-output LED track light ideal for retail, restaurant and hospitality applications where color and tone are critical. The LED Flat Back delivers soft, warm light (3000K) or crisp, neutral white light (4000K) at 2500 lumens over a virtually maintenance free life of 35,000 hours. Three included reflectors provide spot, display and floodlighting for maximum effect.

Using LEDs to Fight Light Pollution, One Wall Pack at a Time

Electrical contractor/photographer is putting her passion to work

Company leaders at Foster-Jacob, Inc. in Peoria, IL, are investing in energy efficiency and reducing light pollution with LED wall packs offered by e-conolight

The company has a number of exterior wall packs on its building that are aging and contributing to local light pollution by splashing light up and into the night instead of down onto driveways and sidewalks. Those fixtures are being replaced with LED wall packs.

Company Vice President Emily Jacob is leading the charge because she believes in the future of LED.

“I like LED technology and the color the lights give off,” she said. “We know e-conolight LED products, and we are using them to save money on our energy bills.”

Crews have been installing LED wall packs offered by e-conolight for their customers for quite some time so company leaders were familiar with the product quality and service that is part of the e-conolight customer experience.

Jacob is also a photographer who specializes in nighttime backdrops, and she is a member of the International Dark Sky Association, an organization dedicated to preserving views of the night sky. She said switching out the company’s existing wall packs with LEDs helps her live her belief in limiting light pollution.

“I’m really passionate about what the IDA is trying to do so I’m pushing my ideas on everyone here,” Jacob said with a chuckle. “Using LEDs saves money on energy costs and the design of the light keeps the beam pointing down and not into the sky.”

The plan is to keep replacing exterior wall packs LEDs offered by e-conolight as needed, she added.
